Under the National Food Security Act 2013, the central law covers up to 75% of the rural population and 50% of the urban population, and each state decides who exactly qualifies as a priority household. In Madhya Pradesh, eligibility for a patrata parchi (पात्रता पर्ची, eligibility slip) depends on the category your family belongs to.

AePDS MP Guide is an independent information website, not a government body, and cannot decide eligibility. The current official category list was not available to us, so we show the original 2013 list from two secondary sources that agree with each other, and mark newer changes honestly. Confirm your category at your Gram Panchayat or ward office.

How many categories are there now?

News reports in 2026 say MP covers about 1.28 crore families in 28 categories (ETV Bharat, February and March 2026). Some other websites say 25. Because the official current list was not retrieved, we cannot list all 28 with confidence.

Some groups are commonly listed online as later additions: Baiga, Bharia and Sahariya (PVTG) families under AAY, destitute elderly people aged 60 and above without support, and households headed by a person with disability. These are not confirmed; check with your Gram Panchayat, ward office or the food department before relying on them.

Stay safe. Checking AePDS reports, Ration Mitra or your patrata parchi on official portals is free. Never share an OTP, your Samagra ID, Aadhaar or bank details with a caller or agent. This site never asks for them. MP helplines: 181, 1967 and 1800-3456-194.

Who is excluded

The official patrata parchi application form includes a declaration that:

  • no member of the family pays income tax, and
  • no member is a Class I, II or III employee of government, an autonomous body, a nationalised bank or a cooperative.

Nationally, the food ministry flagged over 1.17 crore possibly ineligible cardholders in August 2025, including income-tax payers, four-wheeler owners and company directors, and asked states to verify and delete them, as reported in news. MP deleted 2.60 lakh cards in 2025, according to a Rajya Sabha reply reported by ETV Bharat.

How to check if you qualify: steps

  1. Find which category fits your family from the list above, and ask your Gram Panchayat or ward office if it is still valid.
  2. Collect proof of that category, for example a welfare board registration, pension order, forest rights patta or disability certificate.
  3. Make sure your family and every member is registered on Samagra.
  4. Check that no member pays income tax or is a Class I, II or III employee.
  5. Apply with the official form. Steps on MP ration card apply.
  6. After approval, print your slip using our khadyan parchi guide and finish e-KYC.

Already have a slip? Stay eligible

Eligibility is reviewed. Under the TPDS (Control) Amendment Order 2025, as reported, all households need e-KYC every five years, and cards with no ration lifted for six months can be temporarily disabled pending verification. Lift ration regularly, keep Samagra details correct, and check your district on the MP ration card list.

Warning: nobody can sell you a category or a slip. Agents who ask for money or your OTP to "add you to BPL" are not authorised. Complain on 181.

Frequently asked questions

Who is eligible for a ration card in MP?

Families in Antyodaya (AAY) or priority households under MP's notified categories are eligible. The original 2013 list covered BPL holders plus 18 categories such as registered construction workers, landless agricultural labourers, pensioners, hammals, forest rights patta holders and SC and ST families. News reports say there are now 28 categories. Confirm yours at the Gram Panchayat or ward office.

How many eligibility categories are there in MP?

According to ETV Bharat reports from February and March 2026, MP covers about 1.28 crore families in 28 categories. Some websites say 25. We could not retrieve the official current list, so treat 28 as the news figure and confirm the exact list with your local office or the food department.

Is a BPL card holder automatically eligible in MP?

In the 2013 MP NFSA implementation, BPL card holders (AAY and BPL) were included along with the other priority categories, according to secondary sources. Today you still need a patrata parchi linked to your Samagra family and completed e-KYC to receive ration. Check your status on Ration Mitra or at your ration shop.

Can a government employee's family get an MP ration card?

The official application form's declaration says no family member should be a Class I, II or III employee of government, an autonomous body, a nationalised bank or a cooperative. So such families are generally excluded. Class IV is not mentioned in the declaration; ask your local office if this applies to you.

Are all SC and ST families eligible in MP?

The original 2013 list, as given by two secondary sources, included all SC and ST families, excluding income-tax payers and Class I, II and III government employees. The current official list was not retrieved, so confirm with your Gram Panchayat or ward office and carry your caste certificate when applying.

What do eligible families get in MP?

According to the MP State Civil Supplies Corporation, priority households get 5 kg foodgrain per member per month and AAY families get 35 kg per family. Each family gets 1 kg salt, and AAY families get sugar at Rs 20 per kg. Grain is free under PMGKAY, extended for five years from 1 January 2024.
